Dermal Filler

At Purple Medical Clinic only Allergan Juvéderm is used to volumise and contour identified areas on the face. This is one of a few dermal fillers on the market which is licensed to be used in the UK. There are many other fillers available in the UK, many of which are not licensed and are imported without the necessary CE marks. This means that these cheaper products may not comply with all applicable European health, safety, performance, and environmental requirements.
Juvéderm is a hyaluronic acid based gel, which if injected in the dermal (second) layer of the skin can give a smoothing effect to surface lines and wrinkles.
Some Juvéderm products can be injected into different layers of the face to contour and reshape (jawline, cheeks, temples).
Juvéderm is available in different thicknesses and product selection and quantity is determined following a medical consultation.
A comprehensive understanding of the facial anatomy including the location of facial blood vessels is imperative when injecting dermal filler.
The lip area can be volumized and hydrated. At Purple Medical Clinic lip volumisation is only performed within the realms of enhancing the natural lip shape as overfilling of the lip area can lead to a very unnatural appearance known as a “trout pout” or “duck lips”.
The area around the mouth (perioral area) can be treated with a soft Juvéderm filler to smooth/eradicate any ageing/smokers lines without volumizing.
A local anaesthetic numbing cream is applied to the area to be treated prior to any Juvéderm treatments. The Juvéderm products all have lignocaine (a local anaesthetic) contained within the filler, which assists in the comfort of the procedure.
Bruising and swelling are a known consequence of any filler treatment. This can vary from individual to individual but will need to be factored into your lifestyle and the timing of any of the treatments. Avoiding alcohol and anti-inflammatory medication (Aspirin, Nurofen) 24 hours prior to the treatment and the use of ice packs and Arnica gel after treatment can have some benefit.
Juvederm products are made of a synthetic form of hyaluronic acid created from bacterial fermentation called Non-Animal Stabilised Hyaluronic Acid. The ingredients are completely vegan (non-animal based).
It is important to note that Juvederm and all fillers will still have been tested on animals, as is required due to the laws and regulations surrounding such medicines. The manufacturer, Allergan, seeks to minimise animal testing and has been pushing to reduce and eventually get rid of it in the future. It is down to individual choice to decide whether dermal fillers are right for you.
